GNSS: A single point of failure?
Today’s world depends heavily on GNSS systems for precise positioning, navigation and timing (PNT). The vulnerability of GNSS to interference, whether intentional (jamming, spoofing) or unintentional (e.g. solar flares), may disrupt PNT services with possible major impact on transportation, telecom networks and national security.
Fortunately, there is growing awareness that alternative PNT systems, like eLoran, are needed to complement and backup GNSS.
Enhanced Loran, or eLoran, is considered to be a good candidate to complement GNSS. eLoran is very dissimilar to GNSS and is almost impossible to jam or spoof. Moreover, a terrestrial eLoran network is relatively low cost to operate and maintain.
The new receiver kit on the block…
Until recently, eLoran receivers were limited in usability due to their size, high power consumption and price. Our new ES-RX/core state-of-the-art eLoran receiver increases the range of applications by reducing size and power consumption. A lower price doesn’t hurt, either.
